The candidate will make full use of the state?of?the art analytical equipment available at the Institute for Ecopreneurship (IEC), amongst othersLA?ICP?MS, LC?ICP?MS, (E)SEM?EDX, LC?ESI?MS, qTOF and GC?MS. Experience on the latter instrumentation is thus of benefit. Good knowledge of English (both oral and written) is essential.Selenium deficiency is a problem of worldwide concern, affecting between 0.5 to 1 billion people. In animal breeding, selenium deficiency can lead to significant losses due to decreased productivity and increased susceptibility towards diseases. Worldwide Se resources available today are not sufficient to supply the entire world’s human and livestock population at an optimal level. It is therefore of utmost importance to develop Se formulations of maximized efficacy. The PhD candidate will aim at developing such novel, highly efficient selenium formulations based on organically modified nanoparticulate selenium composites. The successful candidate will synthetize such composites, characterize these regarding their physico-chemical properties and examine their efficacy.
